- England reach Euro 2024 final
- Harry Kane won joint top scorer award with 3 goals.
- Several “Three Lions” players have not performed as well as they would have for their clubs.
England’s run to the Euro 2024 final has to be regarded more as an achievement than a failure. But when considering the form of the Three Lions’ players. Few have lived up to the standards many have set.
Today we will take a look at the 19 English players who have played and see how many points they have received.
1. Jordan Pickford: 8
Pickford was on target as he saved Manuel Akanji’s penalty. As England beat Switzerland on penalties in the quarter-finals and the Everton goalkeeper was largely unscathed throughout the tournament.
2. Kyle Walker: 5
Walker struggled defensively to block a shot from Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons in the semi-final and struggled throughout the final after being disrupted by Spain left-backs Nico Williams and Marc Cucurella.
3. John Stones: 7
Stones has been a strong central defender for England and his experience playing in midfield for Manchester City has certainly helped him to be more consistent and to survive pressure.
4. Mark Guehi: 8
Despite it being his first major international outing, the Crystal Palace defender showed no signs of dread, dealing with opposition forwards well and allowing Stones to not have to shoulder the burden alone in defence.
5. Ezri Konsa: 7
We didn’t see much of Konsa, playing just twice as a substitute, but his performance as a starter in the quarter-final against Switzerland in place of the suspended Guehi was well deserved.
6. Kieran Trippier: 5
Trippier had to move to left-back temporarily to solve the team’s immediate problems and many of the mistakes that he made were not solely his fault, which is quite a pity for the Newcastle United captain.
7. Luke Shaw: 7
Southgate’s gamble to wait until Shaw was fit and ready to play appeared to have paid off, with the Manchester United left-back impressing immediately upon his return to the ยูฟ่าเบท team and putting up a strong performance against Lamine Yamal in the final.
8. Ebereshi Eze: 5
The only memorable moment for Eze was setting up Harry Kane’s winner in the last 16 against Slovakia, with the Palace man having little impact on the team.
